The Macedonian association of agricultural cooperatives – MAAC has started the first activities of the project “Let’s build a cooperative society” supported by Civica Mobilitas.
The aim of this project is to contribute to encouraging positive social change in the agricultural sector as well as raising farmers’ awareness of the benefits of cooperative association and creating a better idea of the content and form of functional cooperation in agriculture, European-oriented law expectations and conditions for starting their representation at the national level. The project also contributes to better regulation and representation, promotion of “agricultural association” through cooperatives and contribution to understanding the supply chain of farmers and market access. The project will increase the role of MAAC in the cooperative development and initiate positive changes in the legislation. The first activities on September 17 and 18 were realized with representatives of agricultural cooperatives from the southeast planning region (Strumica and Gevgelija) where the problems in the vegetable sector were detected and debated, as well as in the part of water communities. The meetings also discussed the necessary changes in the legislation for amending the Law on Agricultural Cooperatives for easier and smoother functioning.
